The future of the Big East (should they lose schools to the Big 12, or TCU to MWC) will dictate the future of Notre Dame. Should Notre Dame make clear they would never join the ACC, then Uconn and Rutgers could be brought in at some point.Īs of 10/5/11, The ACC is in waiting mode. What makes for an interesting situation is that it’s not entirely a case of the Big Ten and SEC wanting the same programs. But in order for half the conference to vote to eliminate the agreement, it would mean all 7 “yes” votes would need to have spots lined up in the SEC and Big Ten. With 14 members in the ACC, it would only take 7-8 schools agreeing to dissolve that agreement and free schools to look elsewhere. The key to the ACC’s future rests on that grant of rights majority vote. There is indeed interest by both the SEC and the Big Ten in ACC schools. ![]() That said, as Texas and Oklahoma were able to leave the Big 12 early for the SEC at a whopping $50 million price tag, ACC schools are certainly considering their options. ![]() The agreement makes it extremely difficult for schools to consider either the Big Ten or SEC. With the expansions of the Big Ten and SEC, the ACC has remained intact as a result of a strict Grant of Rights agreement that is in place from 2016 until 2036.
